Citytrip Rome & Vatican City 2014

Hotel Everest Inn Rome

My favorite city in Europe. Visit this city like 6 times and still love it. The people, the language, the architecture and the  atmosphere are amazing!

This time we stayed in Rome from the 17th till the 20th of march and sleep in hotel; Everest Inn Rome. This hotel is located at the Via Natzionale, best place to see the hotspots and right in the shopping area :) Just Love it!

Look at this view from our room.. Love the busy streets and this view over Via Natzionale.

Rent a scooter

At our first day we rent a Vespa at Bici & Baci, located: Via del Viminale 5, www.bicibaci.com.
This is one of the nicest ways to discover this beautiful city. You can stop where and whenever you want. Make a stop at the Colosseum and drive to a higher point, to make a nice picture with a view over Rome.

Very important to know; beware of bus and taxi lines. You can't transit in night and day. Violation fine amounts is 100 euro!!

Colosseum

A must see when you visit Rome, is the Colosseum. The entrance is like 12 euro, but so worth it! The Colosseum is also known as the "Flavian Amphitheater". It's the largest amphitheater ever built and is located just east on the Roman Forum.
Earlier the Colosseum was used to host gladiatorial, now it's a major tourist attraction with thousands of tourists each year.

Trevi Fountain

The Trevi fountain is 26,3 meters high and 49,15 meters wide. It's the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the whole world! This fountain has appeared in movies like: "La Dolce Vita". A must do when you visit the Trevi Fountain, is to throw a coin, using the right hand over the left shoulder. A 3000 euro are thrown into the fountain each day!!!

The Altare della Patria / Piazza Venetia

The Altare delle Patria, also known as "Altar of the Fatherland" is the largest national monument in Italy. Inside you can find a museum. This monument is located in the city centre close to the Roman Forum and Colosseum. On the other side of the roundabout, you can find a terrace to drink something and enjoy this beautiful view!

Trajan's Forum

This place is a must see when you visit Rome; Trajan's Forum. The main entrance to the forum of Trajan led to a large courtyard flanked by two colonnaded particos. Trajan's favourite architect also designed the markets of Trajan, a six stories high complex with shops and offices. It was a modern shopping center at the time.
It's located across Piazza Venetia, close to the Colosseum.

Spanish Steps

The Spanish Steps is a monumental stairway constructed using 135 steps and is dominated by the Trinity dei Monti church at the top. At the foot of the Spanish Steps the area is of upmarket chic, with an endless supply of designer shops and many restaurants and bars. When you eat or drink something at this are it's more expensive.

The Via dei Condotti facing the Spanish Steps is where you want to go if you want to shop for Armani, Prada, Versace or Gucci. This is not only one of the richest streets in Italy but also one of the best for (window) shopping in Rome.

Vatican City

Don't miss this place! Vatican City is a walled enclave within the city of Rome and is the smallest state in the world!

Within Vatican City you find cultural sites such as; St. Peters Basilica, The Sistine Chapel and many museums.

You will enter Vatican City through St. Peters Square. Thousands of guests gather in te square to hear blessings from the pope or to participate in masses on religious holidays such as; Christmas and Easter.

This place is not so crowded as Rome and perfect to visit in just 1 day!
